Had a lovely day yesterday!

Went with 3 friends on a lovely day trip far from the madding crowd as it was a lovely day here...no rain and the coast was buzzing with visitors...so we set off early and did the visitor tour of the old gaol...very interesting ...took a couple of hours...

Then we took a lot of single track roads and ended up over the Denbigh Moors and had a picnic....then to Llyn Brenig a reservoir where they have now opened up a new cafe.,ending up going through Betws y Coed and the back road to my friends in Conwy where she made a lovely meal.....A thoroughly wonderful day much appreciated.
Also ..they have a section of the gaol with a very modern Archive dept of the area,so will visit again probably on my own to spend time having a search.

Oh, thank goodness, Brenda. When I saw the headline, I thought you had been caught for busking in Mold.

Story of your day made me a bit nostalgic. I love that house next to Sportsmens. Very isolated and right on top of Moors. Was like a magnet when I was young. Lots of stories about a leading politician 100 years ago who apparently owned it ( I think name is Gwylfa Hiraethog).

Ruthin gaol sound like somewhere I should visit with a great grandfather (John Jones - sic) born in Llanarmon yn Ial nearby to research a bit more. :-D :-D

My paternal grandmother was born in Gwernaffield and I am a bit stuck with her mother ,who Was Elizabeth Williams born in Ruthin.
I think I found her a few years ago buried in the local graveyard, but with that name being so common can't verify...must see if I can work some more on that.

It is worth a visit to the gaol as well as the Archives. The tour is made more interesting if you hire a little hand held gadget that takes you through each section in quite an amusing way.

Expect Betws y Coed was heaving yesterday. Problems of tourist areas in summer. I love those sunny, crisp winter days best.

This must be hottest summer since at least 1976. I know Porthcawl has had a good season, and wonder if all the other seaside towns (Colwyn Bay, Southport, Scarborough, Clacton, Weston have all benefited this year).

Betws was heaving yesterday ...as was today on the coast as it was a nice sunny day,but did have a cool breeze .
I find the place to go is inland on Bank holidays...unless you like crowds and nowhere to park!
