of onions. I am in the process of making cucumber pickle and the cucumber, onions and pepper have to be salted for three hours first. The smell has permeated through the whole house.

It saves wasting cucumbers when there is a glut. Merlin.

Mine smells of stew cooking......daughter and husband coming and they like my stew with beet root, pickles and red cabbage on the side...it's easy and doesn't spoil as they are not the most reliable time keepers.......anything for ease these days.
Your pickle sounds yummy!! :-)

You should have done it in the shed Ann ;-)
How much space is needed for a glut of cucumbers? I wouldn't mind trying them next year.

Merlin, are you still waiting for your Derbyshire shallots? :-0 :-D
I might try growing some next year too.

Cucumbers are grown in the greenhouse Island, two plants in a grow bag, don't take up a lot of space. Ours wouldn't be a glut if we weren't going away but they were quite large this year so take just the two of us a while to eat just one. We had four large ones left over so two are going to be pickled. :-)

I do like onion gravy but it doesn't really like me, gives me stomach cramps when my SiL makes it when he does roast lamb.

Ann
I can imagine the smell......rather like the time I made green tomato chutney, I expect.
The end result was lovely, but the smell seeped everywhere.

On this subject..I bought some handwash the other day which is supposed to get rid of the smell of onions.... I haven't tried it yet though.
