I just wondered if other people had heard of the furniture or had any in their homes.

We enjoy watching the afternoon Flog It programme which we think is always really interesting, and it gives me a break from the gardening! Take care now. Gxx

I watched part of Flog It! yesterday and was delighted to see Paul Martin go to the Design Museum at Broadway of Sir Gordon Russell's furniture etc. I hope to visit the same place in the next few weeks.

I met Sir Gordon's daughter some years ago when she was living in a lovely old house in Norwich, it was about 15 or 17 century I think, a small lounge and even smaller kitchen on the ground floor, a bathroom and study on the second floor and a large bedroom in the eaves. There were several pieces of her father's furniture in the property and it was delightful. One thing she had was a copy of the shaped round coffee table Paul showed. She also had her mother's sewing box on legs that her father had designed. There were several of the dining chairs too and some other bits and pieces, the place was too small to hold much. it was lovely furniture, simple and stylish and light, not dark heavy wood.

My friend had compiled a book about her father and I have a copy of it. She lives in Paris now and we stay in touch at Christmas and such. Her family was connected to the Lygon Arms Hotel and lived there for a while I believe. Sir Gordon was asked to design cases for wirelesses by Murphy and this helped save his company when times were difficult. He was also asked to assist on the committee of people who designed Utility furniture too. He has been well acclaimed so I am always surprised that his name doesn't come up in programmes about furniture .

I have always wondered why there is never any of Sir Gordon's furniture on the antique programmes, I have only ever seen a coffee table bought from a boot fair or something shown on a programme. I asked when I was at the Antiques Road show day on my birthday whether the furniture ever came to light and they said they thought they had only ever had one piece on the show.

It was only a fluke I turned the programme on so must have been meant.
