I am sure if this goes ahead the insurance companies will have a field day with premiums :-|

I always feel very uneasy when something like this is introduced and you have to opt out rather than opt in.
Particularly as, in this case, GPs do not even have to inform patients about the initiative.
Also, nobody seems to have actually looked into how it contravenes the Data Protection Act or the implications thereof.

The shared/purchased data could be used for many different things but it will of course be predominantly profit led. The information will prove invaluable to drugs companies and the likes of BUPA who will be able to do things like narrowly targetted marketing.

Control,

I Think,
is the reason, the more they know, the more they can affect our lives.....

for example.......
"You might not want everyone to know that Denise, was once Dennis!"

or that you might have been born with something not quite right......

Dear All

Hello

Hope you are okay.

Exactly what does any organisation, including prospective employers
want to have access to so much information about people?

What are they looking for?

GP referrals are often left on desks with very personal info included,
they are not marked as confidential and literally anyone can look
when they are in transit to the hospital.

Take gentle care
Best wishes

I'm so annoyed with myself for allowing my records to be accessed by other health professionals when I could have opted out. Can't believe they are doing this. Well I can. I will see if I can get my records kept within the GP surgery or at least find out a bit more about what my records may be used for.

I was part of a research programme recently and the hospital running it asked if a certain University could have access to my personal details so they could ring me for goodness knows what. I refused. It's all getting a bit too much.

Probably taking a leaf out of the last administrations book, You know the one that pushed for ID cards on the grounds of cutting ID fraud and reducing the risk of terrorism but at the same time allowed the DVLA to sell all our personal details to anyone willing to pay

They probably will ask for more, Uzzi - as the one thing you can be sure about the members in our current Houses of Parliament, is that they have no morals.
Even better - to price the records on a sliding scale. The most unusual obviously getting the highest price.

They could get more money by getting the tax owed by the over-rich, their 'old school' chums and the likes of Starbucks.

But no - it's easier to sell our confidentiality.

Maggie 53 mill is a great little earner but imagine if they said nah we want a fiver per name, because there will be some comeback on this.

maggiewinchester Report 18 Aug 2013 16:28

I notice it's being run by a quango (how often have we been told quangoes will disappear?) called NHS England, so doesn't seem to involve Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
Population of England in 2011 was 53 million.
Nice little earner at the expense of the population's confidentiality.

Can´t say I am impressed, but then I can´t say I am surprised either apart from how little they think we are worth.

Just reminds me of why I left the UK.

Makes genocide easier.
They can get temp staff on minimum wages to plough through them looking for 'dirty habits' like smoking, or those with STD's and ensure the government knows, so they are suitably castigated.
It also enables more 'experts' to decide how we should live, like their decision that everyone over 50 should be on statins - just in case - only to now admit they don't know enough about the side effects!!!

http://www.express.co.uk/news/health/421421/GPs-in-a-muddle-over-who-gets-heart-drugs-statins-as-chaos-hits-millions

Selling off everyone's health record at £1 a throw will be a nice little earner for the government as well.

I am not in favour of this - nothing is sacrosanct these days, seems to me the present incumbents of Whitehall Departments will sell anything for any price, they would even sell their granny :-|
