Just flicking through the TV channels on Sky tonight and suddenly noticed on the Welsh channel - S4C - I don't speak Welsh unfortunately - and there was a programme on Pendyrus Male Choir. My lovely OH was a life member of that choir and he died nearly eleven years ago, and although I have videos of some of the choir's concerts I can't bring myslf to look at them yet. However, I chose to view and there he was!!! Phoned a friend whose husband also was in the choir and he died about three years ago - so we are both watching with trepidation - seen him on there too - it's still on at the moment and I'm recording it so my son can see it - I think my friend and I will both be shedding tears tonight, happy ones though

Ann,

It's wonderful that you spotted that by chance. We don't have Sky, or I would watch too.
I hope that maybe now that this has happened you will be able to watch the videos that you have not been able to watch. Enjoy the programme.

Tec :-)

That's a really poignant thing to happen Ann...........but lovely too. So many mixed emotions must be flitting through your mind.

Sending ((hugs)) and tissues........~~~

Ditto, Tec :-D

Perhaps, Ann, you could watch a video with your friend and have smiles and tears at same time. Missed programme tonight and no S4C+1 that I can find. But hopefully they will repeat programme. Progs usually get more than one airing on S4C.

They're on again at the moment in the following programme which is all about Joseph Parry - him what wrote Myfanwy amongst others - Lawrence won't be on this one I shouldn;t think, but recording it just in case

A lot of tears when I saw him in close-up, just didn't seem real

I know exactly how you feel Ann. When my husband was alive we used to jive in a bar in town. One day I was Googling for the whereabouts of an entertainer who worked in the same bar. This led me to you tube and I came across a video on you tube of us jiving. A holiday maker must have taken it. I sent the link to friends and family and I watch it often.

It is so sad but also lovely to see him happy and full of life.

I hope you will soon watch the other recordings of your husband and come to enjoy seeing him singing in the choir.

Hi Everyone,

You can watch S4C live or catch-up (I think up to a weeks programmes) on S4/Clic on your computers.

More (((hugs))) to you Ann -love Jemxx <3

When you get S4/Clic- click on "Catch Up" then click on the day you want. Then click on "Pencerdd Pendyrus"

have just seen the first part that I missed Jem - so glad to have seen it cos there were a few close-ups of Lawrence - we always used to reckon he paid the camerman as he always seemed to get picked out!!

Know how you feel Wendy - bitter sweet isn't it

Ann, it must have been a strange feeling to have found the programme and seen your dear husband's face and his friends too. I am glad you managed to record the programme and alert your friend too and hope you can bring yourself to watch your own videos sometime soon and enjoy reminiscing even with lots of tears.

Ann- I have watched the programme. The choir's singing was really lovely. How proud you must be, but how emotional too!
I also watched the following programme. I have always loved the song MYFANWY, which was sang by Jason Howard and Timothy Richards with the choir. It always makes me cry!

For those of you who would like the words and the English meaning to Myfanwy, I have posted it on the Welsh Thread. You can also hear many versions sang on the Internet. The one sang to the Joseph Parry Version by Male Voice Choirs will be the most authentic.

Hope you enjoy- Jem <3

AnnCardiff Report 18 Aug 2013 15:04

Myfanwy was the most requested song by the choir - Princess Margaret chose a Pendyrus recording when she did Desert Island Discs

If I were ever far from home and heard Myfanwy I would be knee deep in tears :-D

And yes, I was so proud of the fact that he was a member of Pendyrus, arguably the top Welsh choir

My Pops used to sing Myfanwy to me, Ann, he was a Welsh bass. I cry when I hear it as well - and Calon Lan.
