Yep Canadian born and bred, and proud of it!!! :-P

Thanks, I'll check out all the information. As I don't even know the first names of these two boys, it is probably an impossible task :-| BUT I have solved those before, with a little help from my friends :-D

Ann. So many useful things like that are seldom easily located. I reckon some get thrown away and some finish up in some dark corner of a book shop in Ross on Wye.

In the chapels, minute books are fantastic to trawl through. "Mr C is unable to continue as class leader presently. We are sorry to learn his youngest son has been reported missing in the Chilean mountains". But I reckon loads of Minute Books go missing. In fact, I well remember finding one 30 years ago in Shrewsbury record office - Old Park Wesleyan, from 1820's. When I went back to Shrewsbury 10 years ago to double check some important info, it was not to be found.

It may have simply been listed wrongly, it may have been sent to Rylands in Manchester. I just hope it has not been lost in some way.

There is a book like that in Milton cemetery Portsmouth but it was (don't know if it still is) kept in the cemetery office and you could make an appointment to see it.

Not around Witney, anyway :-)

Once actual church in Witney has been established, it may be a good idea for someone who lives in Oxford/Witney area to have a word with churchwarden. It can be amazing what they know locally. One lady churchwarden produced a church burial book for me which she kept in a locked safe in her home. It gave full details of when graves were bought, how much, who by. And all the people buried in each grave with depth of burial. Book covered burials in a graveyard started in about 1800 - last burial about 1900 when they opened another graveyard well away from church.

Just to say, if you don't know, Shy is in Canada so may well not be around at the moment.

There's 2 churches and a cemetery in Witney. I've got the parish records for them, can I help you narrow down which one you want?

in Witney, Oxfordshire? All you have to do is go to the the churchyard (is there more than one????) and "just inside the gate are two little mounds where my (grand)fathers brothers are buried"

If you find them, I'll mail you a box of yummy Girl Guide Cookies
OR
you can just gave me some clues on how to found these two babies.

Some-one told me to get in touch with the "Witney Local Studies Library" but I can't find their website????

Thanks
