Just wondering, is anyone who doesn't live in Scotland (or who hasn't posted on the Scotland thread) getting "Safer Scotland" adverts in the top advert banner?

Odd - does GR monitor the threads and show different adverts depending on what we post? I am getting Safer Scotland and Sheffield University - can't think of any connection to the second, though.

I have noticed in the past that when I have bought anything on line, I get that company's adverts soon after.

I had Safer Scotland yesterday. Today it's Laser Eye Surgery - result of the thread on wearing glasses??

They certainly seem to be sort of relevant.

I don't live in Scotland, but I've posted on the Scottish thread.

Three small ads on the top (I have to scroll to see them while I type)....

Find your family history ~ Justanswer.com
British Ancestors ~ UK's No 1 research service for Australians
StudyFamilyHistory ~ study at home with UNE

I usually don't bother reading the ads, so I've never noticed anything about Safer Scotland.

There's a small blue triangle....... something about Ad choices. Can I choose to have none please?

This is fun, now they want me to meet my new Lexus.
I've also had a DNA testing advert but the best is the one that keeps telling me my computer is useless!.

I've had the useless computer one too. It wants me to click on something, but so far I have resisted the temptation.

I think it's probably down to cookies, if you have shown an interest in something, even on another site you often get adverts connected with whatever you have been looking at.

George :-)

The advertisements have nothing to do with GR - they are provided by a third party.

There are various ways of doing it but one of the widely used methods is based on cookies.

Cookies will report back on what sites you have been visiting, for example.

Advertisements can also be targetted according to keywords that are picked up.
