my Mum made mine - a traditional fruit cake which she got professionally iced and I had a silver vase filled with freesias on the top

She also made my wedding dress, all lace, and the bridesmaids dresses and page boy and flower girls outfits

I really miss my Mum - she was a brilliant self taught seamstress

That's what I call a cheesecake!

What I don't understand....... in the US, they have a big gooey cake, covered with cream........ and the bride & groom feed each other, then squash it over each others face! ewwww :-(

At the wedding I went to last weekend the 'cake' was a stack of cheeses, decorated with grapes, cape gooseberries etc & topped with red berries.

After the photo's it was cut & put on cheese boards for the evening spread.

My cousin made ours, a 3 tier hexagonal rich fruit cake with white royal icing and decorated with silver coloured icing flowers and horseshoes.

I still have the happy couple from the top

:-D

At our local market, there's a soap stall.... nothing looks like soap.... they've even got cupcakes!

If a cupcake soap was sitting on someone's sink I'd feel guilty using it, wouldn't want to spoil it.

:-(

Actually, I quite liked the one with the deer on. Does that make me weird?

Can't remember what mine was like, but as I don't like fruit cake it was probably a sponge but I do remember it had a little bride and groom on top and proper icing.

Can't understand all this cup cake obsession, weddings or anything else. A friend knitted cup cakes for Christmas presents! What on earth was that all about? Another woman in the village makes them out of material, fills them bath salts and, reputedly, sells them to Harrods!

We lived in eastern Europe for a while

While we were there friends in Oz got married, we couldn't get leave to come home for the wedding.

They sent us a package with pieces of the cake (fruit cake).

Went to the post office to collect it......... the parcel had been opened....... and there was a big bite mark in each piece of cake!

You're right....... we didn't eat it.

:-(

If I remember rightly (well it's a long long time ago) my cake was lovely (still have a favour from it ) it was made by Nuns at the local Convent . Not sure I like the idea nowadays of just an elaborate sponge cake or even worse Cup Cakes and no traditional cake ... Nah! It's a must for a lovely fruit cake . We had last year M&S Golden Wedding cake it was great and also bought an oblong iced sponge for the kiddies just plain so added gold roses gold ribbon and dusted it with gold dust...It looked amazing and tasted good too :-D

I'm in a nice bit of trouble, I confess;
Somebody with me has had a game.
I should by now be a proud and happy bride,
But I've still got to keep my single name.
I was proposed to by Obadiah Binks
In a very gentlemanly way;
Lent him all my money so that he could buy a home,
And punctually at twelve o'clock to-day-

There was I, waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church;
When I found he'd left me in the lurch,
Lor, how it did upset me!
All at once, he sent me round a note
Here's the very note,
This is what he wrote:
"Can't get away to marry you today,
My wife, won't let me!"

Lor, what a fuss Obadiah made of me
When he used to take me in the park!
He used to squeeze me till I was black and blue,
When he kissed me he used to leave a mark.
Each time he met me he treated me to port,
Took me now and then to see the play;
Understand me rightly, when I say he treated me,
It wasn't him but me that used to pay.

"Chorus"

Just think how disappointed I must feel,
I'll be off me crumpet very soon.
I've lost my husband, the one I never had!
And I dreamed so about the honeymoon.
I'm looking out for another Obadiah,
I've already bought the wedding ring,
There's all my little fal-de-riddles packed up in my box
Yes, absolutely two of ev'rything.

"Chorus"

My cake was made by a West Indian lady who kept coming back to me for more money for 'ingredients'. The cake was delicious. She was using the money to buy rum which she steeped the fruit in for ages.

I didn't have a wedding cake "problem".

We eloped!

Went to the registry office, then out for a lovely dinner with 2 friends who were our witnesses.

Ruined her special day? It was that important??? :-0
I always thought the bride was supposed to be the centre of attention.
No sympathy from me I'm afraid.

You can't beat a good old fashioned fruit cake and white icing.

Scozz. yes, I had a look at the others :-0 especially the 'beach' cake.

Did you look at all 14 of them?

Imagine seeing one of them at a wedding reception, and trying not to laugh!
