I don't do jumblies and car boots. Don't need to, I have my man for that service.

Used to go to jumble sales once but they are not the same now. Dealers come to them from all over the place and I really can't be bothered with all that.

Usually, if we go somewhere, I will buy some cheese or jam or some local delicacy. Usually buy some Sidoli's ice- cream if we go to Wales.

LOLOL

Himself says I'm weird........... other women spend hours in clothes & shoe shops, I head for old book shops & junk shops, when I can be bothered going shopping

and did you tell him that??????

I buy cookbooks from places we visit as souvenirs ................ but do have some old ones from the 1930s and 40s.

unfortunately, I'm stupid ................. we don't have time to search through jumblies or second had stores when we are away :-(

at least, that is what OH says as he drags me away.

We are going to have a day out on Wednesday I hope. Can't decide where to go ye t.

I did actually do considerably better with a book once.

I had a book about the Sir John Franklin expedition which I must have picked up from a jumbly at some time. I certainly had paid no more than pennies for it.

An expert on the expedition was giving a lecture I Pompey, so, of course, I went along and, of course, I argued the point with him about something. Probably a bit exasperated, he told me I would never see one but the definitive treatise was the R J Cyriax book but they were printed in 1939 and stored in a warehouse that was bombed. There just are none available to see.

Well, actually there is one and it is on my shelf.

You mean there's some left....??

I was in Hastings yesterday, I'd have carried on along the coast had I known.....

Thought of you as we drove through Winchelsea.

That's a great find!

I look in second hand bookshops & at markets for cookbooks, I'm starting to think I'm a bit obsessed! I must have over 100 cookbooks.

They don't just sit on the shelves, I use them regularly, always looking for something different.

A few years ago, my cousin's daughter (she was about 9) was looking at some "old" cookbooks. She asked......... Mum, what are libs and ozzies? We had no idea what she meant, until we looked at the page........... lb & oz. She had never heard of pounds and ounces, never mind lb & oz. We felt ancient!

:-D

I'm bilingual when it comes to cooking :-)

Wow... a really good find.

What are you going to cook him as a reward for this gem?

I like old cookery books because they usually have proper food in them and I like to try out the recipes so a friend who goes to a lot of jumble sales and car boot sales often drops me in a cookery book or two, not always old.

He usually gets to eat something that has been made from one of the recipes if I use it and we feed him at other times as well. That's how we roll here!

He brought me in a Woman's Own book last week that he had picked up for pennies and I was interested to know when it was printed so I looked it up.

Well, it was printed in 1936 or 7 and a very dilapidated copy was being offered for sale for £15 . One of the same quality as mine was offered for £38.
