OneFootInTheGrave Report 9 Aug 2013 04:47

From various reports that I have read about fracking, allegedly we are sitting on massive supplies of shale oil and gas and this will provide cheap energy prices for years to come and then I remembered what "BarneyKent" posted on the "Utilities - Good Management" thread on 03 Jul 2013 @ 13:40pm:-

I remember when natural gas came in - we peasants were promised cheaper gas.

I remember when nuclear power stations were built - we peasants were promised cheaper electricity.

I remember when off-shore oil was discovered - we peasants were promised cheaper oil and petrol.

I remember when wind farms were first proposed - we peasants were promised cheaper electricity (again).

And now we are going to have shale gas "easily" recoverable by fracking. So we peasants are going to have cheaper gas again.

These reports of cheap energy from fracking omitted the following phrases - when pigs fly; when hell freezes over; and when politicians tell the truth ;-)

I have signed the petition :-)

Apologies OFITG for going off topic.

If anyone is against fracking there is a petition running on-line.

RamblingRose, I recall all the promises about cheaper fuel and energy when they started drilling for North Sea Oil so I am sure some people will really benefit, have 3 guesses who that will be - one thing is for sure it won't be Joe Public ;-)

Rambling Report 8 Aug 2013 15:11

Fracking will almost certainly devalue any properties within a radius of the site, so 100k is peanuts in real terms.

"Earlier this week Energy Minister Michael Fallon defended comments about people living near gas drilling sites in which he suggested that fracking would test "how thick their rectory walls are" and "whether they like the flaring at the end of the drive".

He later said the comments were "light-hearted". It came amid protests against potential fracking in West Sussex."

"Lighted hearted" my ****! There are workmen laying new drains where I used to live, the vibration has caused cracks in property nearby...and that is just digging down a 'few feet' in comparison.

David Cameron is reported as saying "what we are looking at is trying to have a very simple system where every time a well is dug, immediately £1m goes to the local community”

However it is also reported that the amount energy firms have agreed to pay when they start work is £100,000 and Downing Street has said that David Cameron's claim that areas which allow fracking to take place locally could immediately get £1m was a slip of the tongue - some slip :-S
