Dear All

Hello

Thank you very much for your replies. <3

I like the statue, Joeva. :-)

Some of my extended family used to live by Lime Grove Studios in London,
where many BBC TV programmes were made, like "Dixon of Dock Green".

Sadly, the studios were also demolished.
Another piece of TV and film history gone.

I forgot to mention he acted with Judy Gardland in " A star is Born"
and had a comic part as a guardian angel in "Forever, Darling"
with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

Take gentle care all
best wishes

My Mum liked James Mason. I do remember seeing him in a film, I can't remember what it was called but I have this picture in my mind of a man continually going round and round in circles on a bike.

Has anyone any idea what that fil was?

Hello Elizabeth,

Your mention of Gainsborough Studios brought to mind that I used to live quite close by there.

I think the studios closed in about 1949 and was not used for film-making thereafter.

Nowadays it is all blocks of expensive apartments and flats but the name Gainsborough Studios has been retained. In the middle of this complex there is a huge sculptor of Alfred Hitchcock's head !

Dear All

Hello

Actor James Mason trained as an architect, but decided to follow his heart
and work in the theatre.

Despite no formal training, he soon secured film roles in the
Gainsborough series of costume melodramas of the 1940s.

These included "The Man in Grey" in 1943 and "The Wicked Lady".
Both were huge hits and set box office records in the post war period.

Probably the role of his career was in "Odd Man Out", made in 1947, set in Ireland.

He played opposite Cary Grant in the Alfred Hitchcock thriller "North by Northwest".

One of his last roles, in "The Verdict" with Paul Newman in 1982,
earned him his third and final Oscar nomination.

He published his autobiography, "Before I Forget" in 1981.

James Mason passed away in 1984.

Best wishes
