I make a good rice pudding but not as good as my Mothers, she used to make it in a tin pie dish, I use a Pyrex one, I wonder if that could be the reason?

I don't have a problem getting hold of it.
I shop at Morrisons they sell Pudding rice as do Asda, my nearest village shop always has it on sale as well.

I can also buy dried Tapioca, Ground Rice,& Semolina, I make them regularly as we love a "proper" milk pud.

In our Morrisons its amongst the packets of custard,& dream topping, jellies etc, bottom shelf!.

Our children loved the Creamola MILK pud as well but it is no longer available, I do have a recipe for it but as we don't have children at home now I have not yet tried it.

Joan.

Don't think I've ever made a proper rice pudding, but my Mam did on Sundays when I was little. I used to get the brown skin if I'd eaten all my dinner up!

Ooh, I love rice pudding with a brown skin on the top. No-one in my family likes it, so I never cook it, but I was brought up on it. Tinned stuff - yuk!

ME!

It is still possible to get tapioca, if you are lucky, but I believe you can only get sago in Indian shops now and it is called something else.

There is one you can make with porridge oats with golden syrup and butter. My mates mother used to make it but my mate didn't know the recipe, which had come off a Quaker oats packet.

I have made it but don't know if it was right.

I buy pudding rice at the Co-op, but yes it is becoming more difficult to find.

Don't like those little pots of rice not keen on the creamed rice in tins either too sweet for me.

I like semolina and sago puddings as well, I know I'm strange :-0 :-)

My Mam used to find pudding rice in the dessert aisle in Morrisons, not with the other types of rice. :-)

Lite...probably means they've used semi-skimmed milk or whatever and they don't own up to the calorie content.

I haven't bought pudding rice lately, but this family likes all those old fashioned milk puddings, including tapioca and sago.
I like them cooked long and slow in the oven, so it's more of a winter pud. here.

Who has the skin in your house ??

It is quite difficult to get pudding rice these days. Sainsburys sell it as such but, generally, you need to but Arborio rice intended for making risotto because that is what people eat now. Apparently rice pudding is not as healthy as what they eat.

Last night I was watching and advertisement and it occurred to me that people are only too willing to buy boiled rice in a little pot with some brightly coloured jammy concoction because it has the word "lite" in it's description.

That little pot probably contains more sugar and costs as much as, maybe even more than, the three pint rice pudding I can make last for three, maybe four, meals.
