I can just imagine that being played on one of those old wind up gramaphones lol

We had one given to us once, I think my brother still has it, and we had some records, one was Roses Of Picardy.

I have heard the song before.

I don't remember the original ( :-D ) ..........

......... but I do remember hearing it in vaudeville shows in the 1940s, after the war.

My home town was on the vaudeville circuit back then, and Mum and Dad would go every week to the Empire to see this week's show. They began to take me in about 1948 or so ................ I guess big bruv or grandparents didn't want to babysit me

I no longer remember who we saw, if I ever really knew, but I do remember many of the old songs that were still being sung ................. like When Father Papered the Parlour, etc.

Dad also used to sing many of those old songs at home.

The only trapeze artist I knew was the one who finished work early, went home and caught his wife in the act! :-D

Ann my Dad wasn´t even born for the original so I doubt anybody on here would remember it ( I don´t think anyway), But I do remember my Dad either having a copy or playing and singing it (we used to have a piano and Dad could sing and play)
