It took me ages to find the plus-minus sign and the division sign

computer keyboards are useless for lots of symbols that we used to be able to make up with typewriters!

I used to work in engineering drafting, we hated it when computers came back from the typists... had to go through reports & doctor them!

I've had a play with some of the codes I listed.... some of them don't give the symbol I thought they would. Grrrrrrrr

As I said........ it's been a while since I've used them :-D

I hope nobody was injured when they flew out on the ejector seat

Thanks Errol, you are a star. didn't have the number lock on. It works now. :-D

Also, make sure that Num Lock is on - there should be a key for this by the number keypad and it may light up or there may be a light elsewhere on your keyboard

are you holding down the Alt key as you type the number in and then releasing it once the whole number is typed?

Errol yes was using the number keypad.

AnninGlos - are you using the number keypad - it won't work if you use the numbers across the top of your keyboard.

Some will work and some will not - you can also use HTML codes in a similar way.

Type Alt &# plus the two or three digit number without a space will have the same result

Not sure why Alt+ 0189 doesn't work for me. I am Windows 7, all I get is a little box saying type equation here!

I opened a new Word document and tried CTRL+W

and flew out in the ejector seat!

It's been a while (years!) since I've used it.... it's not very often you need to place a world map in a document.

It usually closes the current open window or tab or in Word will usually close the open document.
I've not heard of that one before LadyScozz - does it depend upon which version of Office you are using?
