Depends how serious the crime was.
Could have been Wakefield.

First tip ....................... always, always, try Google!

Next, local newspapers for the area where he was living, or where the crime was committed.

I have a relative who served time in prison in West Yorkshire in the early 1960's. He has since died and I wish to find out about his crime and conviction. Any help in how to get started would be helpful.
