Bobtanian
It sounds like McAfee is doing its job correctly.
I am still not clear whether it was detecting a conection to Skype or to your PC or network in general but it certainly appears to be an unwanted attempted intrusion.

If you want it is possible to block the IP address on your router.

Are you running a firewall?

Hi Mr Bobthingy sir
Did Mcafee link it to Skype?
I have just checked the IP address you provided and it would appear to be Ukraine.
I am getting Kyivstar GSM which I believe may be a Ukraine (rough geographical area) internet provider

Right,

Hi Errol

cooeeee!

what do you know about skype? I only have three active contacts on skype, but this morning my mcafee said.............Risky connection from IP 176.8.183.179.

looking into the "more" it showed a map and a possible location of this threat......

Ukraine...........

does this mean that someone tried to contact me? that mcafee didnt like??

I felt it would be cooler during the current rather sunny spell.

If it happens again (the IP problem I mean, not the sunshine), there is something else we can do so just let me know.
Glad to be of help.

Just another suggestion - double check with your son that the network is password protected and what sort of encryption it is using.
Catch you later.

Nolls,
Do you connect to your wi fi via your mobile phone?

The message comes up on my PC every day, but it's because we have 5 phones and various devices in the house that can access the Wi Fi.
Ipads, ipods, laptops, netbooks ect

Gosh! I've just realised how many devices there are in our household!

ok lolol

Give this a try (for Windows 7) - you might want to write it down or print it off

1. Hold down the Windows key (probably next to the Alt key) and press the R key.
2. In the box that opens type "cmd" (without the quotes) and then press Enter/Return.
3. A black window opens. Type in "ipconfig /release" (again without the quotes and with a space between the two words) and press Enter.
4. After a load of text has scrolled up, type "ipconfig /renew" (without quotes and with a space) and press Enter.

This should solve the problem.

Is you're wireless network password protected?

In other words, if anyone else wanted to connect to it would they require a password?

In all likelihood you have nothing to worry about but we'll try a couple of things in a mo - just grabbing a bite to eat
