We pay just over £30 a year for our garden waste bin and it is worth every penny. It holds loads is collected fortnightly and we only have to visit the dump a couple of times from april to October to get rid of any surplus. given the price of petrol it is a bargain, very few houses in this area do not have a bin. :-)

Sue Report 18 Jul 2013 13:01

Thats awful. No consideration, especially from a neighbour.

In my area, they have stopped collecting green waste and the alternative is to pay for a special bin roughly £30 a year. Well only about 2 people in my street have gone for this option. So, its take it to the local tip, using petrol, and causing polution, or have a bonfire, also causing polution. Or compost, but not everything can be composted.!

What a selfish neighbour :-( I occasionally have a bonfire, but always well into the evening when no-one's about.

Hope you can enjoy your garden to-day in peace Ann :-)

Thanks Frederick. I wouldn't say it was a real nuisance because it doesn't happen often enough but I shall bear that site in mind.

No ann not him over there, wrong direction.

No Frederick no danger to our property.

No, no bye laws I checked, our Borough Council seem to positively encourage bonfires, say they are a good idea to reduce rubbish and great fun on bonfire night!!!!

Hi Ann in G, have a chat with your local fire prevention officer in
your fire brigade, if there is a danger to your property ie sparks etc
which could damage garden furniture ie fences and sheds etc then
the fire brigade are obliged to come if you call them out.

No bye laws anymore and they were only set by individual counties anyway.

Sorry it's a great fan or the hose pipe.

Florence is right I think there are certain by-laws which restrict lighting fires do check otherwise do as George says start watering your garden and leave the hose on :-0

Hi peeps, can i just say that when i lived in kent, there was a local council by -law that stated between 1st Apr and 30 Sep bonfires were only allowed to be lit after 6pm and it was courtesay to tell you nearest neighbour especially so they could get their washing in before you lit.

Do local councils not have this by-law anymore?

Like someone else said, i would put my hose on and "accidentally "spray it in your neighbours direction. Some people have no consideration for others.

Might be worth asking if by-laws still exist, just a thought.

Florence
in the coldest, windiest and least summery place in uk :-P

Was discussing this with youngest last week, son in law is an EHO. Daughter is an Environment Agency Officer.

There are no rules regarding lighting bonfires other than you could be prosecuted if smoke drifted across a road as that would constitute a danger.

You could try complaining to your local Environmental Health Agency (good luck with that..lolol).

Unless you can prove that the smoke is toxic I'm sorry to say it's grin and bear it (or use a ruddy great fan and waft the smoke back at them)

Thats so rude of your neighbours Ann, how inconsiderate, one thing that does rile me is fires being lit in gardens, it can be very dangerous too, one of y neighbours did one a few years ago and he lost his shed in the process.....he was very lucky really :-|

Oh come on now don't you realise that the only person that matters is your neighbour and the whole world should revolve around what he wants!

Maryanna Report 17 Jul 2013 17:36

Oh for goodness sake Ann, we have got a pyromaniac nearby too.

Why do they only choose hot sunny days when you want to be outside and most likely, have windows open and washing on the line.

Mind you, I can hear thunder rumbling.

That will put paid to any ideas of dinner outside tonight.

If it comes your way it might put out that smelly bonfire though.

Our gardens are not that big and they light it right near the boundary fence (they are on the end of our next door neighbours garden. Not the first time they have done it. Why can't they wait until after 7pm?

Jane Report 17 Jul 2013 17:33

Sounds like my next door neighbour Ann :-S.They burn all sorts of rubbish and the stink is just overpowering sometimes. It is a fair way down from our house but if a breeze is coming our way it is dreadful.
