Success then! :-D

Edit - that was meant for Rose.

Roy - After following your instructions, I've found the GED but it opens in my tree programme. I want to delete the wretched thing and it won't let me...sob sob

That's another job for OH to sort out in the morning as he gets fed up with me cluttering up the computer :-(

Det, to find your GED file just click on start then enter the file name in the search box, as you type you should see a list of possible files, continue until the one you want appears then click on that,

even just typing the word "ged" should locate it

Thanks all, scarey moment there when I tried to download it from the email and little boxes kept multiplying saying 'open with'... and then 'cannot open' :-0 but it did go to my desktop ok and then to Tribal Pages where it has opened :-D

Ancestry, once you click the download button and it’s prepared the gedcom, opens a box which says

You have chosen to open

(name of tree)
Which is a; GED file (2.1MB)
What should Firefox do with this file?

-Open with (my off line programme)
-Save File

Unfortunately, if I choose Save file, it just down loads it and I’ve no idea where it is!

Thanks DET,

I was a bit hesitant of moving the tree, not that it's very big, because of losing the records I had put in Keepsafe but just noticed theyhave gone anyway :-0

If it's from GR, it comes attached to an email. Don't know about any other site, but if you have to save it straight away to your computer, just 'park it' somewhere where you can find it again!

I'll have a play with Ancestry and see how that one works
