Rose you can filter them into different categories although it may be a bit laborious.
I have always been quite a fan of gmail but I do think they have got it wrong this time.

You can filter messages into different categories but it's a bit laborious.
I have always been quite a fan of gmail but think this "forced" improvement is unnecessary and will cause a lot of problems.
It should be an opt in and not an opt out.

If you do leave it as is, remember to check which category utility bills and payment receipts etc are going into if you pay online :-)

Thanks Rose - just been having a play with it this afternoon and it's pretty pants.

Tried various configurations but it isn't brilliant in the way that it categorises.

Thanks for that Rose, looks like it can be cancelled then. I shall give it a few days to see if it works. As you say at least all one type appears together and easy to delete.

To the right of 'Promotions' there is a plus sign...click on it and you see this

"Choose which message categories to show as Inbox tabs. Other messages will appear in the Primary tab.

Deselect all categories to go back to your old Inbox. "

the only thing it IS good for is that my FB notification all go together so easier to delete.

Google are currently rolling out the new look gmail.

You can change what appears where by changing your filters but I am currently looking for an easy way to get rid of this new but unwelcome "feature" altogether.

Hi Ann, glad you mentioned this, it came up for me yesterday but I hadn't really looked at it or the seperate categories and was wondering why certain emails hadn't appeared! They are in Promotions...when they should be in Primary. I wish they wouldn't 'fiddle'. :-D

Mine is still in old format, hope they do not go changing it.

Has anyone else got the new format for their G mail?

I got it this morning, didn't ask for it, could live without it, but it isn't really a problem. However I am puzzled. They arbitarily sort your e mails into 3 categories. Primary, social and promotions. So you have to check all three for incoming mail. My puzzle is, why I wonder have they put Facebook alerts into social, and Genes alerts into primary?
