Mine changed over yesterday. Bit confusing at first but considering the number of emails I receive everyday it has sort of split the mass into 3 separate lists - Primary, Social & Promotions. Saves me a lot of time. Don't know how they decided which sort of mail goes into which stream but it is like having 3 email boxes within one email.

Least all the Facebook, Twitter and school blog messages have been correctly filtered to the Social stream.
All the Argos, Amazon, Co-op and other sales promotions are now going into the Promotions stream.

That in itself is a big improvement.

Not tried to change much as most of my mails are already filtered but found if you tick a mail and hold the mouse down you can move a mail to one of the other mails streams.

Not tried any other tips yet - watching to see what others come up with :-D :-D

Heartily sick of Outlook/Hotmail & was thinking of changing to G mail.
A re think seems to be called for.

Not a problem wisechild, as said quite simple to ditch the "improvements" if you click on the extra tabs and select disable everything goes to the one inbox.

Also some folders like trash are hidden in the list at the bottom on the LH side, if you want them displayed just drag them up into the top list

I actually think gmail is very good.

AnninGlos - I am a big fan of it - had an account since it was first launched (when they were like hens' teeth and you could only get one by invite) which meant I had a choice of loads of different account names before they were all swallowed up and you had to create ridiculous names with loads of numbers and obscure conbinations of letters that looked vaguely like your name lol

Renes - loved that article - so very true!

I'm also a big fan of Gmail - also had one of the original accounts after faffing about with so many others.

I like the fact attachments are easy to send - the photo pixels are not an issue.
Each persons box would be hard to fill up but the best thing is no span.
The occasional one slips though and the occasional mail go in the spam box. :-D

"the photo pixels are not an issue"

Huh?
What does that mean?

Was trying to keep the message short - not too technical.

You are have IT skills - Uploads & downloads, JPEG image sizes, kilobytes (kB) and megabytes (MB) - ( 640 x 480 pixels JPEG).

Some email boxes/providers restrict the size and won't accept or transmit a large file.

Gmail seems to take most

It would have to be a pretty large image file with high resolution.

The image size has nothing to do with pixels - that's the resolution

"image size" tends to refer to the physical size
"resolution" is the quality
JPEG is merely a term for a certain type of image - there are many others

640 x 480 is very low resolution indeed - about 0.3 mega pixels

A pixel is a dot.

As you increase the physical size of an image those dots move further and further apart.

So, a huge picture could have a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels (VGA) but would look pretty poor although it would be quite a small file size.
