Thing is...not sure if we could have a tank put in, the house is a park home and the land is owned by a landlord....we buy the property and pay rent....we're waiting for their package of rule & reg....it was posted 2 weeks ago, they say.....grrr

We had storage heaters years ago couldn't wait to get rid of them - a waste of money but perhaps better now. What about fire central heating?? My SIL had that and the house was lovely and warm she burnt wood so wasn't too dear could stock up in the summer ..... But it was a bit of a nuisance having to make the fire every day though!

Ann...never thought about grants, will look into that too:)

A friend is doing alot of the work reguired, he may have some idea's too as he must see different types put in houses....hes a carpenter/builder so won't do the heating.

Jude - I think the electric storage heaters have improved considerably in the last few years - but still not ideal.

There is no gas here either, so we had an LPG tank put in the garden. That enabled us to have gas central heating, and be able to have a gas stove, that my OH preferred, and was accustomed to.
It's expensive, but then any system is whatever you choose.

If you opt for oil you could also have an oil fired Aga!

Always disliked storage radiators, until earlier this year. Elderly and un-mobile SIL has them and they were a godsend when their power was off for a day during a very cold period - gas and oil central heating (and even some gas fires) need electricity to work but their storage heaters kept them warm all day.

yes l got the same impression re electric. There is a regular delivery of oil where we are moving to and with gas cylinders...me thinks we ought to look into oil. Will stick with electric cooker/oven, just got used to that now. Shame we have to leave ours here but its built in! The man before us got rid of his cooker/oven and just used a microwave!!

I believe storage heaters have improved, but I wouldn't personally want them.

I have had hot air blowers and would not want them again, although my sister in Canada says hers are wonderful!!

I had underfloor heating on holiday once, and it was wonderful, particularly if you like going barefoot. I don't know how expensive it is to install though.

For standard radiators and a hot water supply you can choose from oil, electricity or gas. If you have no mains gas you can have a gas tank installed in the garden and use "bottled" gas. (It's much cheaper buying it in bulk.)

Which method is cheapest will depend on where you live and which supplier you use.

As for which make of boiler, I would use google for ideas and then ask a local central heating engineer for advice.

Jude electric heating is very expensive and it may be better to install oil fired central heating.
With electric you will have to use an immersion water heater and they gobble up electricity.
If you go for oil fired, although you will have to have the central heating installed and a tank put in outside, once you have done it can work out relatively cheap, particularly if there is a local cooperative from where you can purchase the oil.

I was going to suggest oil Jude, although it is not cheap, and I don't know how expensive it is to run.

wouldn't advise storage radiators unless they have improved a lot since the 80s. :-(

Are you in the UK? And does the house you are moving into already have central heating?

Have you thought of oil fired?

erm don't know Errol....its just that we have gas c/h now and love it but no gas where we are moving to unless we have g/bottles...so was wondering about electric??..but not storage heaters!

Do you mean one of those systems that blows hot air around through vents?

....Electric central heating/hot water system and what make?? not night storage.
