Click on ‘Family Tree’ on the home page (not the drop down version)
Then ‘Manage Tree’
On the Green Bar where it says Tree Settings, select Privacy Settings

The section to make it Private is the 2nd of the 2 paragraphed boxes. It does say that it usually takes a month or more to be reflected in the search indexes even though the tree will instantly become Private (or Public)

And also another thing to do to stop it appearing on Mundia (ALL Trees are on there even the Private ones unless you do the following)

When in your tree, go the the settings and there is a box to be ticked which will prevent you tree appearing on Mundia as well.

Ancestry do not tell people about this which is a bit of a con.

I am sure that someone on here with more experience will be able to advise exactly what to do. I know I found it quite easily when I was told about this.

:-D

DC - my trees are all private on Ancestry - I cannot see the Mundia check box! Where is it?

Same here, Potty :-(

Is it the little square box against which is written
'Also prevent your tree from being found in the search index.' ??

DC - Are you sure that private trees are included. I have never bothered with Mundia before now, but the following is from the site's FAQ's and suggests otherwise:-

Family Trees and Profiles
•What is a "profile"?
?A "profile" is a representation of a person in a family tree.
•How did you get over 1 billion profiles in your family tree network as a new site?
?Mundia is connected to the Ancestry Websites and part of the Ancestry community. All of the public family trees throughout the Ancestry Websites are visible on Mundia.

•If my family tree on the Ancestry Websites is private, will it automatically become public when I log in to Mundia?
?No. Logging into Mundia will not automatically change your family tree settings on the Ancestry Websites. If your tree is private on the Ancestry Websites, then it will be non-searchable on Mundia. However, as noted above, your tree and profiles may still be viewable by certain people.

Some time ago, before my tree went onto Mundia, I emailed Ancestry and asked these questions.
They assured me that whatever settings I had on my Ancestry Tree would also apply on Mundia.

My main, fully documented, Ancestry tree is private and unsearchable.
I am certain that Mundia is the same.

Originally the tree was private, but could be found on a search.
It also showed that I had added various documents to the individuals found on a search.

Every 3 or 4 months, I export a gedcom from this tree, and upload it to Ancestry.
Once it appears on the search, I delete it's predecessor.
As this duplicate tree has no docs, photos ect added, I allow it to be found on searches, but it is still private.

Since I started doing this, I no longer get the once regular messages from randomers asking me if I will provide them with the paperwork or photos which are attached to certain individuals.
