Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 11 Jul 2013 19:22

This morning. out of the blue , the front door bell went . OH was downstairs I was on the PC doing look ups and was well engrossed it what I was finding and posting

Water Board guy was at the door ,we are putting in water meters and your water will be turned off in 10 mins, PANIC I got in the shower got wet all over and was just going to shower gel all over and the water went.

Well we hadnt been told it was going off . had got a letter LAST year t say it was being done in June 2012 but then Zilch.

We had a water softener installed last Sept and was told make sure you close it down if a meter is put in cos the debris flushed through the pipes could damage it , It cost us £1000 plus so we dont want it damaged.

Well after 10 mins still no water but they were working on neighbours houses. GOT so fed up waiting for the water to come back I cleaned myself with wet wipes so I could get dressed.

Had to explore the freezer to see what we could have for lunch . Fortunately I had some frozen curries and enough water in the kettle to do the boil in the bag rice,

Was up in the front bedroom about an hour ago and saw a water board lorry collecting the barrier thingies they put around each hole so people couldnt walk into em

Went outside and said when is the water coming back??? we have been off since 11.30 am . He said its on !! NO we havent got water!! he opened the stopcock and ours hadnt been opened .l How lucky you are said the guy that I am here!!

NOO I think that's so inefficient . we should have been told last week that the work was being carried out this week . If we hadnt been at home then the £1000 plus water softener was at risk cos its wasn't switched off,

As it is its been a wasteful day. Thank goodness I had curry in the freezer so we had some lunch even though by then it was 3 pm

The attitude was so laid back they where nearly up their own behinds, How long would we have waited to be reconnected

It's very annoying when things like that happen, Shirley, Glad all is ok now tho and your water softener is not damaged.

Re the boil in the bag rice, have you tried the bags of rice you cook in the microwave, Tilda make some and Sainsbury's do their own. I like the one with roasted pepper and courgette in but there are lots of varieties. Usually £1 each or less, sometimes on offer, and only take 2 mins in the microwave after you cut a slit in the top of the bag. Rice is nice and so easy to do, not so much steam in the place either.

Haven't tried those Liz I do the boil in the bag in the microwave in a lidded Pyrex bowl. Takes 12 mins all told .

Will have a look at the other ones as I shop in Sainsbury.s

I'd do what George suggests, Shirley.
Whatever happened to customer service?

Tilda rice that cooks in 2 minutes is excellent. We find one bag is enough for the two of us and use it all the time now. You don't even have to make a bowl dirty.

Sorry i didnt come back to this saga .It got overtook by hubby's fall later in the day and his overnight stay in Hospital

I did manage to talk the Southern Water customer service and gave them the story . Got a very grudging sorry we didnt do things as we should have.

They said the foreman has the work schedule and its left to him how he operates it but did say he was at fault not to give more notice of the water going off. They will have a word with him .

We were left with an airlock to the shower cos the water has to go up into the loft and then come down again to the shower. Hopefully we have sorted it by turning off the water and bleeding the pipes.

I did tell Southern Water if our water softener is damaged they will be getting a bill.

So far we seem to be OK .

To be honest OH fall and hospitalization overtook any worry about the water.
