Having seen Fred and his mate out BlackBerrying and generally foraging for anything that will cook, a lady who lives locally has been known to give him some vegetables. I remember there being a marrow and she has given him other things which we assumed she grew in her garden.

Yesterday she stopped him up the road and gave him a bag containing four avocado pears, several peppers and two ripe pineapples.

We have no idea where she gets them form and neither will we ask , she might even be a shoplifter getting rid of the evidence. Don't care.

The peppers will go in salad and curry, no problem. I have passed on one avocado and will probably think of a use for the others but what about those pineapples?

They need using quickly and we eat about one fresh pineapple every six weeks.

Help me please before I find a use for them that might make Frds eyes water!

Ouch don't say that!
Why not cut up pineapple and freeze or liquidise and freeze for later. An upside down pine. cake . In salads or Chinese or just enjoy fresh ...Lovely. And lucky you getting so much free...yes don't ask lol! . I like avocado mixed with tuna and vinegar it goes well together. Enjoy
:-D

Didn't know you could freeze pineapple.

Can you freeze avocado?

I don't think you can freeze avocado. You can make a dip from it though, slice it in salad or just eat as it is with mayonnaise (if liked).

There is a recipe for making a mildly alcoholic drink from pineapple rind. You immerse it in water for about 3 days with some sugar (can't remember how much), then strain it. I tried it once, and it was just about drinkable! :-D

Hubby loves pineapple . he will cut up into cubes and cook it with caraway seeds and then have for his sweet with yogurt.

I also have put the cooked pineapple into portions and freeze for when fresh fruit is no longer available , so he has a fruit sweet in the winter months.

Now you've got me Sharron I freeze everything except avocado but not sure if I have done pineapple just presumed you could , maybe someone can tell you :-S
Just googled it yes you can ... suggests you open freeze in small cubes before bagging up and also if you cut against the grain it doesn't freeze so well!
Let us know if you do and how it turns out

Pineapple Liqueur

500 g fresh pineapple
500 ml vodka
100 g sugar/syrup

Slice pineapple and combine with vodka in a jar. Leave for 1 week, strain and squeeze as much juice as possible from pineapple and then add sugar syrup to taste ;-)

She could be a dumpster diver.

Many people now do this (in fact many supermarkets now lock their bins!)

So much good, edible food is thrown away.

If I could move more I would not hesitate to do it....

For a main course mix a tub of natural yoghurt with whole grain mustard. Add a few peppercorns and then some of the pineapple chopped into very small cubes. Add an orange, again finely chopped and small cubes of peppers.
Put in a baking dish and lay some prime sausages on top and bake slowly in the oven. Really nice with new potatoes.

With the remaining pineapple, cut it into strips and cook under a grill. Because of the sugar content it will caramelise. Serve with whipped cream.

It's quite a rich meal but a really nice treat.

With the avocado you could make a favourite of mine - guacemole.

Use the avocados, an over ripe tomato with the pulp removed, minced onion, lime or lemon juice, a little salt and pepper and I sometimes add crushed garlic or a chilli for a bit of oomph.

Just mush it all up and it is lovely with salad and tortilla chips on a hot sunny day in the garden.

Don't forget the Pimms!

Nice one Woolly Bum.

That sausage recipe sounds a bit good.

It looks highly likely that the pineapple is going to have to be jam, simply because I am totally potless at the moment and I actually do have the ingredients to make jam and I have neither yogurt nor wholegrain mustard at home. I will certainly remember it though as I am sure it will work with veggie sausages.

The vodka recipe looks a bit tempting too but, yet again, this is a vodka free zone.

That is the one I saw. I don't have any limes but I do have lemon juice and I noticed that the lime in the ingredients becomes lemon in the instructions so I will have a go at that one I think.

Avocadoes, I put halve them and take the stone out, fill the hole with a bit of blue cheese and wind them under the grill.

Then we eat them with a bit of balsamic on.

Do remember to plant the stone ....they make really nice plants quite easy to grow ... well I planted 4 stones and they all grew , but no avocadoes

I have made the two pineapples into that jam.

It does taste good but is not very thick. No doubt it will top a steamer or go in a sponge.

I bet it is still yummy tho Sharron, I love pineapples. I also love avocadoes and if they get a bit soft but haven't turned black, I spread them on to bread or a roll without butter first and then add a slice of ham or smoked salmon etc, The taste if lovely, but I also just like to eat an avocado with a spoon if it's ripe enough. Used to eat them with just vinegar poured into the well, and brown bread and butter.
