It seems to be true. The component batteries are LR932 size.

The A23 battery (also known as 8LR932[1], 8LR23, GP23A, MN21, 23AE or ANSI-1181A) is a dry cell-type battery mainly used in small electronic keychain radio devices, such as keyless vehicle entry systems, home security systems, garage door openers, and Bluetooth headsets.

An A23 battery is cylindrical, smaller than an AAA battery, measuring 28.5 mm long and 10.3 mm in diameter, with a typical weight of 8 grams. This battery must not be confused with the similar single-cell 1.5 V N battery. An A23 battery is an 8-cell device with a nominal voltage of 12 V. The higher voltage is necessary for the radio frequency-transmitting and receiving devices which A23 batteries often power. It has a capacity of around 55 mAh. [2]

A23 batteries are constructed of 8 individual LR932 alkaline button cells enclosed in a wrapper. The cells may be separated and used individually by removing the outer case.

An A23 battery must not be confused with the similarly sized N battery, which has a 1.25-1.5V output.

I change my own batteries in mine and families watches. Agreed you would not want to tinker with an expensive watch but for ordinary watches in every day use these batteries are fine and last ages.

Guy in our shopping precinct is the cheapest compared to local jewellers, etc., and he charges £3.50.

No contest - I'll continue with Poundland's own.

Barney you beat me to it, that is what we do too.

Reminded me of my dad, he had one of the self winding watches, when he retired he took to his chair with the telly and remote control.
He complained his watch kept stopping, we explained he just wasn't moving around enough!
Don't think he was impressed, in the end we bought him a battery one :-D

They are really great value Ann. Glad to know other people think as I do. One or two people have called me tight for shopping in "low" stores, but the savings are huge.

I am not a big pet person but I do have some goldfish in the garden pond. Supermarket fish food: over £2 for a plastic container with only half the quantity I can get from Poundland for £1.

I people want to sneer and chuck their money away, that's their lookout !

We always do the rounds of the pound and 99p stores, you get some really good bargains there. We got bright green case straps £1 each, ok they won't last long but have done two trips and will do at least one more. And you can see them from a long way off.

Also bought plug adapters, you just have to look hard for bargains, on the whole I steer clear of food because I read an article where they said they charge £1 but the packet weighs less. As I don't always remember the price of things in the supermarket I can't judge.

I got those batteries too, Barney, and the green straps Ann, and a plug adapter. I don't use Poundland so often now as I don't get to the city centre as much but if I go to Matalan I use the Poundland there and stock up on things as it's open till 8pm or thereabouts.

They have lovely scarves which I like, fine lightweight ones that are useful in the car or when travelling as I get neck problems sometimes if I am sitting in a draught and o.h. will have his car window open instead of using aircon.

Some of their food stuffs are good value, but if it's hard to remember prices then it is difficult to compare.

O.h. likes their jewel cd cases, I think there are 5 or 6 in a pack and I often find good books there too, hardbacks and paperbacks. Fearney was one I love and the Floating Brothel came from there too.

The book has already had a thread about it before or at least been mentioned on here so don't think there will be a problem Barney. It was a fascinating book and I was able to help someone out who didn't have the map in the library book they borrowed, I sent a copy of the map from my book so it was put back in.
