One can but dream - although I have jewellry I no/cannot wear and have been saying I will sell and buy something I can wear.

Awful thing is I can always pick out expensive - usually turns out to be five figures :-)

Alas I always like the five figured items :-( Though I did get a bargain at a flea market bought a beautiful 5 stone opal ring for £30 and got it valued at £350-400 not bad going and I love that ring , I know it's not that dear but it is nice :-D

Did you know that opals are said to be unlucky, comes from the fact that a lot of people lose them from their settings. Apparently it's because they keep the rings on when putting hands in water and water makes the opals shrink so they come out of the rings.

Not sure how true this is but that's what I was told when selling jewellery part time at party plan.

Water and opals do not mix Liz.

Quite right! I've inherited some of my grandmother's rings, and her opal one is split, because she never took it off to wash up!

Thanks Chris, and Lynda, that's a shame isn't it? I was sure the story was true but I never bought opals. (only opal fruits lol)

Liz Yes I know they are supposed to be unlucky unless it's your birth stone and yet I love opals and lost so many ....Staying with friends one year I took all my "Good" jewellery with me (not that good) in case the house was robbed lol! put them in a makeup bag and there was a funny wee drawer/hole with a lid in the boot what a good idea to hide them there. Months later I began to wonder where the rings etc were then remembered...Ouch! we had sold the car six mths ago to auction and never saw them again the bag included 2 opal rings . I also have a lovely little black opal ring but dropped it and chipped the centre! still wear it reckon no one will notice unless they look really close! And still I buy them and the one I have now I look after it very well :-D Interesting to hear water and opals don't mix didn't know that :-S

Must admit I have never been to an auction

But I know that I would probably have to sit on my hands to stop me bidding on anything that took my fancy.

And that could be from Furniture, Books, Maps, Pictures and Jewellery

I even have to limit the amount of times I visit ebay, although I have bought some great things off there!!!!

I did it I succumbed! Not five figures though. I bought 1900 gold bangle - very plain, no jewels. I will be able to wear this and when the price of gold goes up again I shall sell my bracelet which will cover this.

OH cannot work out my reasoning but have told him he has to sub me till then!
