Hello peeps. Well i have just renewd my subs as they ran out in may and for various reasons let them slide.

I tried to restart some searches last night and OMG what have Gr done? All changed again. It took me twice as long to find something as simple as a birth and marriage.

Why oh why if it's not broken, does it need to be fixed?

Im all for changes that improve a system but for the life of me can't see that these changes have made an improvement.

Does anyone else agree with me or am i making too much of a fuss?

Perhaps some of you can update me on any other changes i have missed as i feel I;ve been away a lot longer.

I have now passed my HNC in early education and will have the graduation service in Nov. This means my winter project will be to comcentrate on finding all those missing rellies i'm still looking for!!

Could anyone down south send some summer weather up here please, the wind and rain is driving me bonkers afterall it is july but feels like January!!

Have a good summer everyone

Can anyone tell me how do i search a birth using the mother and father's surname or has this facility been withdrawn. I used to be able to find all births using both names but i cant see how to do this on GR. Also you could put the area in too?

Hello Florence, welcome back :-)

As I don't do any research on here I can't comment on the changes, hopefully someone can help you out soon.

Hello again Florence,

you can put the mother's maiden name in the box marked
"optional keywords'...that will show for eg Keating births MMN Fishlock, when those come up , you will see under the 'search now' icon "advanced search' that lets you look by county and district.

Edit, but if it's between 1911 and about 1950 it's much quicker to use Freebmd imo.

Hi Florence ~ welcome back :-D

I'll try to send some sunny Aussie weather your way, it's winter here, but probably warmer than the Hebrides.

Maybe I'll send you some nice ribbon, you can tie your hat on :-D

Search first for known surname name

Then as the list of names appear ... If you look in top RH corner ... Advanced search link has appeared ... Click on that and another box opens ... Put the mothers maiden name in that ...

Or you can put maiden name in optional info ... on first search ... Or use either of them for county etc ...

Well thats how I do it

Thankyou peeps for your suggestions. I have now managed to find some births a little easier with your help.

I do use Free BMD RR but these births were from 1970's and sometimes Free BMD isnt quite up to that, but thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks
Florence

Yes Aussie weather although winter would still be warmer than what we have, bring it on !!
