Susan10146857 Report 4 Jul 2013 16:03

hmmmm......now don't all jump on me but isn't that a bit like the Germans saying happy D day to us?.........I never could understand why The British would say Happy Independence Day . Or even celebrate with Americans in our schools.....very confusing :-D

I don't mean to spoil your thread Rose....will delete if you wish :-)

No it's isn't Susan :-D

Susan10146857

Susan10146857 Report 4 Jul 2013 16:16

Isn't what Rose? :-)

The Americans are extremely Patriotic.....sometimes I envy them of this.....I could never see them celebrating anything other than their own days of rememberance.. Or wishing us Happy anything if we had been at war with them........I am afraid this 4th of July lark it is one of my patriotic pet peeves. :-)

Rambling Report 4 Jul 2013 16:17

No don't delete Susan, it's a commonly held viewpoint...but I don't count myself as 'only' British so I have no problems with saying 'Happy Independence day' to the US any more than I have trouble celebrating that there is an Irish Republic ;-)

But I say it not from a political view , only in the sense that it is an important day for some of my relatives and friends....much as a Jewish friend always said "Happy Christmas" to our family, though she did not celebrate it herself :-)

Now why did I just know that you were going to give such a reasoned 'argument' that I would have to concede? Tsk!........I still don't like it.....but you win....this time :-D :-D

Rambling Report 4 Jul 2013 16:28

lol I am all 'fired' out now, I can only give reasoned arguments...and since I've been told to cut down my 'rambling', I am going for the shortest responses I can muster ;-)

Happy Independence Day! to my other family members in the USA.

but I like your Rambling, Rose ......:-D

I have dual nationality Grandchildren and have no qualms if they celebrate it.....they are after all children.....They can make their own minds up when they are of an age to do so. My American son in law and I have many discussions on the subject which is always interesting.

I had a daughter on 4th July.....I am sure they speeded up my labour so she would be born on a memorable day

I got married on the 5th November...I try to forget that one :-D
