I live in an urban part of Winchester, people have cats, dogs, rabbits & canaries.
Whilst preparing my dinner, I thought I heard a chicken. Then heard it again.
This got me thinking, if I was my chicken would I find it's clucking annoying?
If it was my neighbours chicken, would I find the clucking annoying?

I heard the noise again. Definitely a chicken. Had my neighbours got a chicken?
I opened the back door.
It seems I had a chicken - it was in my garden!! She was beautiful.
Oh - and there were my cats.
I scurried next door - no answer. Asked a passing man if he knew who kept chickens - that's another 'mad old bat' mark against me. :-(

Rushed to the shed, found a huge box, only to find it had gone into next doors garden. Now it's disappeared.

I deduce from your report that fowl play may have taken place.

We were in a car park recently and looking out there was the most beautiful golden cockerel he had come right up to the car looking for food so was obviously used them, he ate some biscuits we had then wandered away.

The chicken escaped unharmed - just checked for feathers.
She left nothing but a little guano. :-D

However, just after the chicken episode, I was about to grind pepper into my mashed potato - when the lid fell off, scattering whole peppercorns into my mash, over the worktop and floor :-|
Not nice spitting out whole peppercorns :-(

Maggie - that happened to me in Grasmere - had just been served watercress soup - I decided it needed a bit of pepper - well I got it - the bottom of the pot and contents landed in the soup!

There was a sudden hush around the restaurant!!

:-D Chris.
At least I hadn't paid an arm and a leg for mine - and could spit the peppercorns out without being watched :-D
