I've had an abcess on my sinuses - caused by a tooth. Doctor gave me antibiotics, and told me to make an appointment with my dentist.
After persuading the dental receptionist September was a little late, how about an emergency appointment? She gave me one more than a week away - ie today.
By now the antibiotics were finished and the abcess had re-erupted, and was worse than before. I'd been unable to eat anythng solid all weekend.
Got to dentist this morning, just told him to take it out.
First extraction in over 40 years :-| :-| It hurt!!

More antibiotics to take.

No mention was made of a dental plate etc.

A follow-up appointment was made - in September!!
Just as well it wasn't a front tooth that I would have wanted a replacement for immediately, or would I have to go private for that?

Poor you Maggie, hopefully you will be back to normal in a day or two.

For a front tooth root canal treatment and then a post crown could have been the answer, not extraction.

Maggie
can sympathise with you, I had two teeth out on Thursday by injection and am on antibiotics and pain killers. I had severe toothache and the dentist saw me right away for a check up,, then agreed to take them out there and then !
Glad I didnt have to wait,
Jan x

Pat, Maybe if the 'emergency appointment' hadn't been over a week later, I may have agreed to other things, but after it re-erupting, I'd had enough of the tooth.
I'd previously had an abcess on the gum, that was eliminated by antibiotics, but the next time the abcess was deeper, then, the third, and deeper re-eruption was just after the 2nd lot of antibiotics.

Oh Maggie - no wonder you were having mashed potato and then the peppercorns - not a good day and not even a fresh egg.

The pain of the abcess has subsided, and the swelling it caused is going down.
My face now looks less like a 'before' (unswollen wrinkly side) and 'after' (swollen - but wrinkle free) advert for a dodgy cosmetic surgeon :-D

....but I think the antibiotics are giving me the runs.... :-|

the runs is better than the pain though ;-)
