Really sad about Mick....I was letting my bit of hair grow long as I envied his,,but OH say's that won't be there for our 60th anniversary even if I cut it off myself... Ain't she a spoilsport???? LES...

The late John Fines was quite an inspired teacher of history to children.

If you Google him you can listen to him telling a story.

You're right Dizzi, television has opened our eyes to all sorts of subjects and broadened opportunities for careers in areas otherwise unheard of.

Sadly though, television has also dumbed down some of these fascinating subjects and turned them into vehicles for 'personality presenters'. :-(

And does anyone (not Dizzi or Sharron of course) remember Magnus Pyke and Dr Jacob Bronowski. Mortimer Wheeler and Arthur Negus? People who opened new windows on dusty old subjects :-D

I think Horrid Histories is working wonders in getting children interested.

Few can identify with monarchy but most children are fascinated by gruesomeness(is that a word?).

FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF TIME TEAM MICK ASTON IT GOT
ME THINKING OF HOW THINGS ARE TAUGHT (EXPLAINED)
NOW ADAYS,
BOTH MICK AND PHILL OPENED ARCHEALOGY TO THE MASSES IN A WAY WE UNDERSTOOD AND MADE IT INTERESTING WE WERE THERE DIGGING WITH THEM,
THEN ADAM HART DAVIS HISTORY CAME ALIVE FOR US,
THEN TREVOR BAYLIS AND HIS WIND UP ITEMS A BOON TO THE WORLD
