Dear All

Hello

Over the last few days, there has been severe flooding in the Calgary part of Alberta.

A lot of the Great British folk and posters from other countries have relatives in
canada and this has been a very worrying time.

This message is to send caring thoughts to our canadian friends and colleagues
and we hope you are all safe and well.

Take very good care of yourselves
Lots of good wishes
Elizabeth, East End
xx

The Calgary region are having a dreadful time. My thoughts are also with our Canadian friends and our friends who have family and friends there.

Thank you ladies for your very kind thoughts & concerns.
I have a nephew & his family living in the Calgary area, they
were evacuated right from the start. Thankfully they are all safe,
but have no idea re the state of their home & property. Just seen
on our local news, that the evacuation order has been lifted, but
not in the downtown area re Calgary tho...

K/Regards,
A/Canuck

Thank you, Elizabeth xxx

Medicine Hat is under Flood Evacuation warnings.

The flood waters are moving towards Lethbridge.

100,000 people were evacuated from Calgary, but 65,000 have now been allowed to return to their homes, to see what state they are in. The city's downtown (ie, business district) is likely to be closed for at least another 2 or 3 days .............. or longer. They have to get the water out of buildings, buildings checked and cleaned, electricity restored, etc, etc.

The Calgary Stampede starts on July 5 ............... the Stampede Grounds were inundated, but the workers and volunteers are working valiantly to get everything operational for the Stampede to go ahead.

High River, Alberta, north of Calgary, is still under complete evacuation order, no-one allowed into the town. Approximately 13,000 lived there. Every building will apparently need close examination before any of them can be re-occupied. Soldiers are now patrolling High River, and making sure there have been no more fatalities ............... they describe the town as looking "like a war zone".

see this link for High River ...................

The problem was that these were flash floods, resulting from an extreme, but very unusually, downpour along the edges of the Rockies. No-one had any chance to prepare.

The towns downstream of Calgary have had that time of warning, so hopefully the damage will be much less.
