8 minutes ago on Yahoo News it says 9 casualties, some serious but no fatalities.

Driver apparently lost control and hit a speed bump. Car was going very slowly, accelerated violently and ended up upside down. I will not give my opinion of speed bumps. Hopefully, my silence will speak volumes :-( :-( :-(

Local resident has told BBC that lollipop lady has been at the crossing for a number of years and is well known in neighbourhood.

We forget sometimes these people put themselves in danger every day protecting our young children :-(

OneFootInTheGrave Report 20 Jun 2013 12:33

"Apparently the driver had a coughing fit and slammed on the accelerator instead of the brake,"

"The lollipop lady was escorting a number of kids across the road at the time."

Resident Glynis Watson describes the scene of the crash

An eye-witness who called emergency services said: "I was walking my dog when I turned a corner and saw a car in mid-air.

"The road was choc-a-bloc with kids arriving for school - there was a huge crash and loads of screaming.

"Children were lying injured in the road and parents and passers-by were running to them to help.

"I called the emergency services and there were off-duty paramedics and parents assisting the injured.

"The lollipop lady was trapped... all I could see was her jacket from under the car.

I remember to this day a similar accident outside the school I went to when I was 5 years old. (not saying how long ago, but over 60 years)
The school caretaker was escorting a little brother & sister across the road at a belisha beacon immediately outside the school gates when a lorry went out of control & mowed the children down, killing them both.
All I can remember really is all the parents rushing their children into school to prevent them seeing the carnage.
The driver was in a terrible state apparently & the caretaker was off work for months.
Let´s hope everyone has survived this one.
The memory has never left me, although I didn´t actually see anything.

well BBC Wales news is only talking about injuries, so let's hope they are not life threatening or life changing injuries and that everyone recovers

seems one of the children is in intensive paediatric care with serious head injuries - so sad

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the Village..

I hope all the injured come out well and hopefully in years to come can put it to the back of their minds.

Hugs for all the injured.

A brave lady :-)

Yes, I agree that Karin Williams deserves a bravery medal.

I also think that all these lollipop men and women are very brave. The standard of driving round schools (and I am not suggesting for one minute that this was anything more than a sudden and uncontrollable coughing fit) is appalling.

I spoke to one lollipop lady yesterday and she told me that she had almost been hit that very morning. Young lad rummaging beneath dashboard for something, going far too fast for conditions and only just stopped before he hit her :-( :-( :-(

What a shocking accident to happen in front of so many little children.

Poor Karin Williams a very brave lollipop lady. I wish her a speedy and complete recovery from her many injuries.

My thoughts and prayers are also with the child in intensive care and everyone affected by this tragic event.
