Of course Scozz...is there any other country? well I suppose Wales maybe included

Even the probates are no good for me...only ones I have found are from 1940s onwards in my family

I would think they are only probates...not wills.. if they are anything like FMP or ancestry

I don't have many English born people on my tree.

GR should clearly state which countries the records are from.

Don't blame England because it kept fairly accurate records from an early time.
If other countries lagged behind for some decades it is their fault alone.

I'm not blaming England! Scotland kept records too! So did many other countries.

Lots of information on birth, marriage, death & census records.

Documents available from 1855, and Old Parish record before that.

It's frustrating when GR just say "records" and don't say where!

btw ~ I only copied PART of GR's message, I should not have used the bit starting "including........"

I rarely look at wills, but have thousands (honest!) of other documents.

Probate only - sounds like the same that is availalbe on A*

Some very old wills are there in full.

So in reality if you find the probate and want to know who was left what in the will (in the hope of finding more relatives) you still have to buy the will.

But for those on here who do not have A* subs a step in the right direction.

Why would I write something that is anti English...I don't have a single ancestor that was born outside of England within the last 200 years

it's strange .............................

no "national" genealogy site tends to carry records from another country, at least when they start up

fmp.uk carries UK records .............

fmp.com .............. the US site, carries mainly US records

fmp.au .................... carries mainly Australian and down-under records.



so it's not a surprise that the new probate records on GR would be England and Wales only.

My brother, photo taken in September 1991 just a couple of weeks before he died. ............................................................ To help us and to get better results, please post as much detail as you can, especially name, date(s) and place. Also say what you already know.
