Police demand water cannon in case of summer riots

Scotland Yard has asked the Home Office to approve two German-made vehicles which would be used to soak rioters with powerful jets of spray.

Researching:
I am researching the Wotherspoon family from the Old/New Monkland areas of Scotland, some moved to the Leslie and Kelty areas of Fife and I'm having problems linking the Wotherspoon's from Leslie and the Wotherspoon's from Kelty. When I was young, a Bobby was to be looked up to, a friendly helpful person, whose word was to be obeyed ,
nowadays I am positively intimidated just being near one of the modern officers of the law, with their sprays, tasers, batons,firearms, body armour etc,and at times, their downright arrogance .

Its just the police wanting more and more hardware to use in a situation that the old bobbies would have nipped in the bud before it started.

First person they used a tazer on was an octogenarian who had "escaped" from his care home.

I expect the riots will be the result of water shortgages & hose-pipe bans, particularly in the Idi Amin (aka - The last King of Scotland) council estates.
