We keep an Oxfam book donation bin in the staff room at work, and when it's full, I just ring Oxfam who come and empty it for us.

They do have a book and music shop nearby.

Try ABE books - they saved me a fortune the 3 yrs g.dau was in uni as I promised to buy all her books - there were man y as she was studying history.

Fiction, fact, technicl they have it and all good clean books - some have never been opened.

I don't know if many folks on GR are familiar with this book shop which has lots of interesting material for your research in genealology .

And if you do not mind 2nd hand

Oxfam Bookshops (shops on certain high streets and online) is another useful place (as are most charity shops)

For reference books I have been very lucky and got some excellent London/Bristol reference books via the Oxfam website. But sshhh do not tell everyone....
