OneFootInTheGrave Report 16 Apr 2013 11:54

Double yellow lines have been painted in an alleyway that is too narrow to drive down.

Lines have been painted on both sides of the passageway, off Newhall Street in Swindon, leaving a gap of just 13in (33cm).

the council appeared to be blaming the contractor.........but to my mind no contractor is going to do work that he wont be paid for........so unless they contract to do the work , then submit a invoice,

it MUST be the council supplying the contractor with a list of roads/alleys etc, to paint!

ps have you noticed that most road signs indicate things you cannot do.........like stopping on clearways, parking, u turns etc not many tell you what you CAN do...............LOL

Kense Report 16 Apr 2013 14:47

The item was on the BBC 1 News at lunchtime. The reporter drove along one of the wide alleyways to reach the narrow one to show us the ludicrous situation.

As he stopped and got out of the car in the wide alleyway which also had double yellows, he should've got done for parking.

KenSE I'm sure the reporter will receive his parking fine through the post once the council see the footage.

Bobtanian, If we are splitting hairs then read the highway code

He got out of the car walked to the front and talked to the camera

Double yellow lines mean no waiting at any time, unless there are signs that specifically indicate seasonal restrictions

Bobtanian Report 17 Apr 2013 08:52

I know that,
but they didnt show the qualifying times notices.......without those accompanying the lines, its not legal surely?

quote
On the kerb or at the edge of the carriageway
Loading restrictions on roads other than Red Routes
Yellow marks on the kerb or at the edge of the carriageway indicate that loading or unloading is prohibited at the times shown on the nearby black and white plates. You may stop while passengers board or alight. If no days are indicated on the signs the restrictions are in force every day including sundays.....

BUT if hes come to a dead end, what else can he do?
