Yes lots of swilling with warm salty water, hope you're feeling better soon.
How about popping a square of chocolate onto your tongue,(if you like choccy of course) and letting it melt mmm that should at least make you feel a bit better in the meantime :-)

What about pork scratchings?

Carol. Sincere thanks for that post explaining things. I am very worried as I have my appointment at 4pm next Thursday then can go home and have my soup and yogurt and try to get some sleep. But will be driving and working all Friday :-( :-( :-( And busy that weekend as usual.

Not as serious as what you have had, but still quite a bit of trauma

You too eh?

I used to crack nuts as well.

Knowing what strong pain killers do to other parts, I did not take them for my extractions and found that I didn't need them anyway.

There is something wierd about my teeth anyway I think. The last one I had out did not bleed at all and the dentist had to make it do so because he said it was necessary.

Well, you can't begrudge him his little bit of pleasure can you?

Yesterday I had a very numb mouth & headache for most of the afternoon. By the time the cotton wool feeling had gone, I had taken my painkillers & dozed the afternoon away on the sofa watching tv. I was able to speak & function quite well but would not have chanced driving.

I slept quite well, having taken painkillers just before going to bed. My gums had bled over night but had been told that this could happen so had put old pillow case on.

Today my mouth feels bruised &my jaw aches a bit. I am swilling salt water round & have added my strong ibuprofen to my daily drugs.

With several possible sites of infection the dentist did advise me to take extra care for 72 hours.

I waited 12 months for this appointment, they were just going to do 1 side & make me an appointment to do the other side, but I wanted it all done & over with.

I have to wait a couple of months till all healed before getting fitted with a plate. My front teeth are good so hopefully no more extractions for a while.

Note to those with strong back teeth:
Do NOT use your back teeth to crack nuts, or you will regret it in the future

If you are hungry eat little and often, I know when you are trying to avoid an extraction site it can be difficult, so how about mashed banana, yoghurt, potato with butter, really mashed to a puree. did the dentist say to avoid food that can get 'bits' into the extraction site? Mine didn't mention it when I had my one large back molar out and I found any bits came out normally afterwards, by a couple of days I was eating normally on that side, the gum was soft but ok. But rinsing with salt water should clear any bits.

You are brave having them all out at once, was that with a local or general?

I have not had more than one tooth out at a time but have had a few out now.(Gummy old crone!)

I had an impacted wisdom tooth out when I was 28 and did all thebits I was told. What a bloody faff to keep on swilling when I didn't really want to.

The last two or three, including another hospital job for the other wisdom tooth, I have come home and had a cup of tea (that part is essential by the way) and eaten normally.

The painkillers were at hand but they were never taken and this is not because I am brave, Wus of the Week, that's me, but the sockets simply did not hurt.

A fair bit of time was spent winkling things out of the sockets, which is at least as much fun as picking your nose and a whole new nasty habit to explore!

Maybe I was lucky in having little discomfort with extractions but I can tell you they gave me enough pain when they were still in there. Oh, Iwas a joy to live with then.

Health professionals generally like to give you the worst case scenario so you may be surprised to find you are taking pain killers and precautions that you don't really need to.

Hope you will be able to eat something soon

Scambled eggs, mashed potato with cheese? Or would you consider they had too many 'bits'?

If push comes to shove, you could liquidise what ever main meal you're giving to your OH.

I am very interested in this thread for personal reasons.

Were you able to sleep, speak and function ok after you had them out, Carol? What now happens? Do you have to have some sort of false teeth? And what will they be like in terms of comfort and eating?

Hope you don't mind me asking you and others - but my dentist has just about given up on the Forth Bridge now
:-( :-(

Had my back teeth out yesterday morning... top & bottom all gone :-(

Cannot eat anything that needs chewing, nothing with bits that can get into extraction sites.

Soup yesterday, but as yet not had anything today except luke warm tea & pain killers.

Any suggestions?
