It wouldn't be so bad of they had the first idea what they are doing.
My OH who is a trained French baker / pâtissiere gets fits of the giggles when she is watching "Bake off".

Let's face it cooking is not in the English DNA.

'Cheap TV' comes to mind. Likewise all the 'Police camera action' type programmes, and the 'lifestyle' shows.
I really don't like having my licence fee spent on programmes telling me how I 'should' live.

With all this talk of obesity and takeaways, I would be more impressed if they put out a series of how to cook simple, nourishing and cheap meals.

Show how much variety you can manage with mince (OK use turkey mince/lamb mince) and a chicken.

Delia did 'how to boil an egg'.

As for cooking not being in our DNA :-D Can I please ask that anyone who says that, comb their hair away from their mouths before they speak ;-) The end product is what counts,

Some of these programmes are very good, but I have to laugh at some of the ingredients they seem to think everyone has in their kitchens. Jamie Oliver may be able to knock out a meal in 30 minutes, but not all of us have a huge drawer of herbs & spices.

When making sponges, I was taught to cream fat & sugar till it was lighter in colour, beat eggs and slowly fold the sifted flour into the mixture... I now put all ingredients into blender & give it a wizz,... result feather light sponge cakes. The common fault not being the mix, but the temperature & time of baking.

A programme such as you suggest would be very sensible, but when does television programming ever make sense?
