This year my Christmas Cactus started flowering in Mid November and it still has beautiful flowers. According to the instructions it should now be ready for pruning but I am reluctant to spoil it. It is five years old and it is the best it has been. Does anyone with green fingers have any suggestions, should I prune or leave it? :-S

Personally I would leave it if it is still flowering, but then I am not a specialist on potted plants. I tend to wait till everything stops flowering then prune.

mine has flowered and blooms now dropped off - have never ever pruned it

if a leaf comes off, just stick it in the earth and it will grow a new plant!!

Ann that's what I normally do but this looks as though it will go on flowering for some time. I think I will leave it a bit longer. I have to admit I am not very good with plants, so this one is very privileged.

I never prune my Cactus, it's an Easter one and is getting ready as always, the little red ends of leaves are growing larger. Some of it looks old and sort of gnarled but I will let it do it's thing and look after it the best I can, it came from a friend who was moving to Paris so couldn't take all her plants. I did pack some for her to take but she only had a small flat there. She left me her Clivia too and it's also flowering again, two lovely orange blooms, and two more plants growing as well, the pot is full to bursting so I will have to split them up soon and repot the new plants.

Hello Liz

I know this is thet time it would be getting ready for Easter, but it has not list any flowers and still looks fresh. I put it in tbe porch in November with no heating, perhaps thats the reason.

In Australia Christmas Cactus (Zygocactus) bloom from May/June. When mine has finished flowering I pinch off the old blooms and that's it. I take off any discoloured leaves but I don't normally prune it. Sometimes it blooms a bit longer than usual so I just leave it. They are gorgeous plants. Mine is a pale peach colour - what colour is yours Paula?

I never prune mine. It flowers both just before Christmas and it is starting to flower now.
I don't overwater it either and it is a lovely centre piece on dining table.

Suemaid. The leaves are lush dark green and flowers are still healthy looking bright Fuscia pink. I am hopeless with house plants they do not survive long with me around. I was given this for Christmas five years ago so as you can imagine I am very protective towards it . <3
