My GGF was a salty Swedish sea captain I think he would have approved.
A close friend, Swedish, certainly did.

Don't know about royalty.

They stayed together and the Swedes loved her.

Seems they didn't*, unless they are incognito, but as he would have lost his heirship for marrying a divorced commoner he would surely have been kicked out for producing a common child out of wedlock - or do the upper royal toadies dismiss such offspring?

edit *have any children

Sharron - the only good thing he ever did was to get his brother George (hooked on either cocaine/heroin), take him to Fort Belverdere and made him go 'cold turkey'.

He was a weak character, promised everything to the miners and as soon as he walked away - forgot them.

Glad he was never crowned - he would have handed us over to Hitler.

Am so glad you are not related to royalty - I was wondering which icon to press for 'curtsey'. ;-)

Could be that they just didn't have children.

I read it Sharron. Rather sad that they had to forego a family of their own. Also his brother being kicked out of line for marrying a 'commoner'.
Maybe they should have followed suit here in the 80s.

It's alright Chris. Contrary to what you may have heard,I am not actually related to the royal family.

I think she was carried away by things that became beyond her control.I don't think he was an angel either.

I agree - however I never believed a romance between the Windsors. I think the Duke was besotted with her, she was still writing to Ernest Simpson for a number of years and she treated the Duke like a piece of ................and he used to cry.

She, in my opinion, was a hard hearted woman but we are not going to fall out about it!!!

Have you read the news about Princess Lilian?

A lovely story isn't it?

Quite similar to our own Duke of Windsor but handled in such a different way.

I think we perhaps should all use this threat and carry it out if sniping occurs.

Sharron

Sharron Report 11 Mar 2013 11:20

Too right. I don't want to read it and nor does anybody else.

If anybody wants to start a thread to draw attention to themselves they can but I would rather my thread went than was hi-jacked by somebody for other purposes.

Any sniping on this thread and I will pull as well.

I saw it Sharron, and hoped it wouldn't air on here . Please don't encourage it :-(

Sharron I read the story, very sad, and as she was born in Wales I have no doubt that a certain gentleman from Wales will in due course give us the full history, you never know he may even have her in his tree ;-)

Have just seen in the BBC news that Princess Lilian of Sweden has died.

In a similar position to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, she,a divorced Welsh commoner and Prince Bertil met during the war in London but they did not marry until the 1970s.
