On the RH side of the screen used to be - pages, style, print, etc.

They have all vanished. However at the top of my screen has appeared Facebook, Manchester United You tube, BBC News and BBC Sports(do not have them and Mma U. Is not to be mentioned in this house).

How do I get rid and get my other icons back please? Only thing I did yesterday as say yes to Java as son told me.

Treat me as a four yr old.

Need a little more information about what operating system you are running, do you mean this has appeared on your desktop etc?

ChrisofWessex Report 10 Mar 2013 17:46

Acer. Yes are these the correct answers I am giving?

The page would be Internet Explorer and I use Google as a search engine.

ok Acer is the make of computer.
Which version of Windows is it running? XP? Vista? 7? 8?
Do you mean these things have appeared on the desktop or do you mean they have appeared when you are using the internet?

Chris,when you downloaded Java,

Did you notice a little box with a tick in it.as that could have been a toolbar for Java,

On the top left hand side of the screen ,look for a different toolbar to what you had before you downloaded Java.

It may even say Java toolbar..

If iit does you can click on it and it may ask you,,,if you want to delete it..click yes..

See what that does first.

Have just updated my Java & noted that there is a box you need to un tick or they make 'ASK' tool bar your main one.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 10 Mar 2013 19:15

Chris it may be as others have said that you have installed an extra toolbar - hanging on to my battery life by my fingertips now lol

Ron2 Report 10 Mar 2013 19:49

Same as Carol P says. Everytime you download a Java update at some part of the process you will find a box pre ticked to enable a toolbar to also be downloaded. If you dont want the extra toolbar the box should be unticked. It is wise to read wot appears in any box of any downloads as these days trying to "trick" you into installing all sorts of rubbishish is commonplace

System Restore is not the "get out of jail free" card that people think it is and there is usually a way around - if indeed it is down to the Java update
My battery now says 10 per cent lol
