HI Everybody :-D, lonnnnnnnnnnng time no see!

I got a e-mail from a cousin of my Dads about other cousin and was wondering what other people think about what is happening to June. Not that we can do any thing about it, but I would be interested to know what people think.

"Jean phoned June with the news. It seems that June is now living with her African friends. June sold her place to help her friends financially. The friends moved away and June moved to be near them. June was now paying rent to a housing association. When I met June she said that she was going to move again and give the rent money to her friends. I really hope that I am worrying unnecessarily but I think that June sold her place so that she could give her friends the proceeds. They then purchased a property with the money she gave them and June rented from a housing association. It could be that the friends bought a place outright or that they have a mortgage. They then told June that they were still struggling. To help them out further June went to live with them. Now instead of paying rent to the housing association June would pay rent to her friends. What makes me even more concerned is that Jean said that June did not want to talk long and that she said that she does not go out. When I met June I think she said that she went bowling and belonged to a choir. I can understand that she would want to help her friends but what kind of friends would allow her to sell her property in order to help them out."

Quite honestly? I think that June's friends are taking advantage of her kindness and generosity. They sound very controlling.

Hello Shy......Sue and Kay are right, these people are taking advantage of June. l don't know how you can get her to realise this other than going to CAB or somewhere similar to get advice!!

Yep, thats what we thought too. :-| Not much we can do from here (Canada) and June doesn't have much to do with the family (I don't think).
I can only learn from her, and not trust anybody with my money.

could there be dementia of some form involved????

Jean and Jane just saw June (the three J's :-)) last month and she said she was a very nice lady. and since she took the bus from Kent to Bristol and back by herself I don't think there can be any dementia :-S

It's just that irrational behaviour, or a tendency to be bamboozled by people, is sometimes linked to the early stages of dementia

Hi hon, good to see you posting, and glad your Dad is on the mend.

It does sound as tho your cousin is being taken for a ride. Would your other cousin? go speak to the Police about the situation, it really needs looking into especially if the lady in question is vulnerable. She won't get any help if she becomes homeless as she will be deemed to have caused it herself, which of course she has. These people could just as easily turf her out on the street. I think she has been too generous, you don't know what story the friends have told her or promised her.

Sad to see people taken advantage of, hope it works out ok

No, we were suppose to have sleet today, but it was just rain. We're having snow next week. But hopefully not, our flowers are coming out, for petes sake!

It does sound that your cousin has got herself into a fishy situation.

Could June (or Jane) phone the Bristol police?
They could also contact Social Services to raise their concerns, and the Housing Authority if there is a chance that Jean is still claiming house benefits against a property she isn't living in.
Although that is an 'Offence', their involvement could reassure you if it turns out that your worries are unfounded.
