My poor old doggie is getting so old and senile I have to lead her to her water bowl :-(

HI, my dogs used to do the same, I always thought it was because of the chemicals that are in our tap water. Plus of course most dogs like anything dirty or smelly, well mine did. :-D

We did have one dog that would climb on the bench so she could look over the fence at the neighbours. We had to move the bench in the end as she wouldn't stop it. Just plain nosy I think.

I think I read some time ago about this and it is because animals don't like the chlorine in tap water. Cats often drink out of our water feature.

Yep, ours finds a muddy ditch, jumps in it and walks along scooping up dirty water as he goes! Puddles are good, too. Either that or he's rolling in fox poo or something even worse!!

All my cats do that, they have freshly changed water in the house but seem to prefer dirty water outside. I also think that it must be the chemicals that is added to our water.

1of my dogs will insist in lying in any water it can find
the other 1 a lurcher will not go out if its raining i have to drag him past the front door
if its starts to rain when we are in the park he just doea a runner to the car park and sits by the car waiting to be let in

My cat has fresh bottled water every day because the mineral content in our water is very high. he still insists on drinking water that has gathered in the plant troughs.
No accounting for taste. :-S :-S

I think it's may be the chemicals. Our dog didn't like his fresh water in his bowl until we fitted a new tap which produced water from a filter system in the cupboard below the sink.

Our tea also tasted better. :-)

My cat likes to jump into the (empty) bath or bidet to lick any residual water. If we see her, she sneaks out looking guilty! It's obviously preferable to her fresh water bowl!

My dog drinks from puddles when on a walk,

We have two identical water bowels one inside the house and the other in the garden, He refuses to drink out of the one in the house yet both are filled from the same tap.

If your dog has his vaccines up to date then drinking from puddles should not be a problem but check that your vet has included the vaccine for Leptospirosis

My dog will always use his nose first before drinking so i assume he is smelling to check its OK to drink? remember they do have a very good sense of smell,

If in doubt ask your vet

My cats have fresh tap water - and drink it.

What I can't understand is their love of rain :-S

3 cats, a cat flap and rain - the muddy footprints are worse than having a dog :-|
