i have recently found that the typed record is different to the original record...eg., my great grandfather lived with a family with the name Gildersleeve (shown on original record) however it was typed as Gilderstone and therefore i struggled for a while to find more info on the family...is there a way of correcting known mistakes or perhaps add a tag?

Hi Rachel, yes, you can report it as a transcription error.

If it is on GRs records send them an email.

I've just found him - unusual name! but no facility to report the error on GR, It is also incorrect on Find My Past is which where GR get their records from.
Email GR and tell them. :-)

it happens on Ancestry too - there is a comment facility on the transcribed summary of censuses and other records, and if you use that the amended spelling appears sooner rather than later
