Please do not buy animals for xmas. They are not toys or accessories, they breathe, they feel, they hurt when abandoned.

They rescues centres are going to need food, blankets and toys now and after christmas please give where you can

Dogs Trust in Leeds won't let people adopt dogs or puppies at least 3 weeks before Christmas.

We rescued a cat :-) He was a little kitten living in dire circumstances, so starved he could not even walk properly, dragging his back legs around. Today he is a dead ringer the the cat on the box of Felix and full of vim. Senior cat posh paws rates him best buddy. Yeah, it was Christmas and we just felt we all had to budge up a bit and make some room.

And he costs quite a bit more than my GRU subs ;-)

Well done Rollo
Maggie I am sure you on´t let the goldfish be abandoned

Edit to say Maggie shouldn´t James have a Jane mate not a Dave.......mind in this day and age does it matter :-0

I think it depends on the recipient and their circumstances, and I agree that it should never be done lightly. My best ever Christmas present was a kitten, and never was there a more loved cat. :-)

Well, we once got a dog for Christmas. He was a rescue collie brought over from Ireland having been rescued from the pound and certain death. The rescue centres around her do not take (or re-home) animals around the Christmas period and a friend of ours asked us to foster him until he could go into a centre. That was 6 years ago and he is still here - one of the best Christmas presents I have ever had.

But I do agree, do not get a pet for Christmas unless you have planned and researched and were going to get one anyway. If you have done this, I think a pet for a child at Christmas is possibly the best present ever - it will stay with them for years, not be worn out by Easter and it will teach them so much.
