Just how can one trust the labelling on poultry? According to D. Maxl today - not a lot and an excuse for hyped-up prices.

I have always told OH the only eggs I trust as free range are those we buy from a neighbour who keeps a few hens.

I dont like Turkey, its to dry ,bland and over rated, much prefer a decent chicken which is genuinely free range.**M**.

I was looking at turkey crowns online yesterday and came across a 'butcher's special selection, chosen by you, award winning, free range' type one. Read the ingredients (yes I know you would expect..TURKEY) and guess what......

'turkey with added water'

I clicked away from iit...lolol

I don't think it is the labelling you can't trust Chris is it? It is the fact that the criteria for free range is not what we expect it to be. i.e. we think of free range as being wandering the fields etc whereas the lowest criteris for free range is something like the space of two thirds the width of a broadsheet newpaper.

Ann - we do expect free range to be as you say, unfortuately that is not always so. Again labelling a product from poultry range as Joe Public believe to be free range - is wrong as is the hyped up price for supposedly free range goods.
