She has suffered from severe constipation all her life and starts off the day for as long as I have known her - over 50 yrs with Al-Bran. |

If I remember rightly, kaolin and morphine is for diarrhoea ,so if she is constipated I would think that lactulose is the best option.I have had diverticulitis when working in a very stressful job and not eating at regular times...it is very painful. |

Chris, Starting the day with a bowl of Al Bran is not the same as having a high-fibre diet |

At the moment she has been told by hospital to eat white bread, fish, chicken - no meat. |

Well if that is what the hospital has told her , then that is what she needs to do , not try umpteen remedies whacked on here by people that know nothing about her . |

Just that she has been on that diet for about a month with no improvement and I just wondered if anyone who had had this condition could say what helped them. She has come down 2 dress sizes and heading for the third - must look like a walking (when she can) skeleton. |

White bread? Not the best option i would have although you can get high fibre white bread but even the ones Ive seen are still quite low in fibre compared to other sources at abt 2.6g per slice |

Hi Chris,Son in law has this complaint. He is on medication but he also eats white bread. In the intestine gaps or loops appear.IHe is not allowed to eat nuts or granary bread as the pieces get caught in the loops and get infected and makes it worse. |

This may help to explain why the hospital told her to eat white bread, fish, chicken with no meat |
