Can anyone help me ? I have exported a Gedcom file and keep getting this message.
"Adobe reader could not open this....because it is either not a supported file or because the file has been damaged ( for example it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded ) "
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Sue :-S

Adobe reader will not open a gedcom file

You can open it using wordpad but it will be in text form so hard to understand

what you need is a program such as family tree maker or simular their are several that you can download for free

Google "genealogy free downloads"

or try Personal Ancestral File (PAF) https://familysearch.org/products

Save the attachment to your documents folder,

Then open your Family tree Builder program, then clickon "File then import"

Then import your gedcom from your docs to that program,
Hope that helps

You can also

Save the attachment to your documents folder, then go to the file and right click then select properties, then under the general tab you should have the option to choose/change what program to use to open the file,

Will give it a try later ,thank you. Getting a bit frustrated as I cant seem to work it out...almost feel like giving up but feel I need to back up my genes tree as I have spent many hours on it!
Did try some way of adding it only to find most of my years of births, deaths etc were listed as 2010 !
Thanks for your help anyway.Fingers crossed it WILL work!
