Dog has been put down. How does one live with that? Bad enough to lose a child but..........

People seem to forget that dogs are animals not small humans. They should be muzzled when babies and small children are around. Or kept outside.

There are endless stories like this but still people think their dog wouldn't do it. Any dog could and would in the "wrong" circumstances.

Dreadful loss of such a young life and all the worse because it was totally avoidable.

Terrible, Babies and dogs just don't mix. I can't begin to imagine the regrets that family have to live with. Poor baby. Poor dog too.

I feel for the parents. They must be going through hell.
I dont think dogs and babies mix well atall,no matter how trusting the dog is.
Dont know the details though.

It's the most dreadful tragedy for the family.

No matter how much you think your dog will accept a new baby you have to believe they will not and prepare that way.

My sister's terrier attacked my nephew's face when he was looking at the tropical fish, no reason other than the dog wasn't getting attention. Luckily his nose wasn't too badly scarred.

Shock enough but to lose a child must be unbearable.

the loss of a child - at whatever age - must be the hardest to bear - no parent should have to go through the heartbreak of losing a child

One of the terriers in the house was known to be vicious.
Therefore, you should be cagey. In fact you should be wary of any dog and newborn.

Daughter had a GSD when her daughter was born - no probs. Dog used to bring clean nappies when baby was changed. Even licked her botty clean during one change.

When daughter got a rescue staffie and I posted photo, (on left- 6 days after getting dog) I /she was slaked for being irresponsible - staffie was brought up with children and had been assessed by rescue centre. The dog wanted to be there, in that position. Loves people and children, is a 'lap dog' albeit a heavy one - and knows where she stands.

So very sad for the family and the baby boy who lost his life and also for the dog, but who in their right mind would leave a tiny baby and a dog together, especially a Jack Russell, I don't know how they will come to terms with their loss.

Rest in peace, little lad.
